Hola, ¿cómo estás?
Hey guys, how are all of you? Hope everyone's fine
Just a journal update (that I was supposed to do last month but was busy with school... when am I never busy with school???) about myself. Going to try and keep this short and sweet.
College: Visual arts in the IB Diploma
Yup, moved into college and currently taking the IB diploma programme. If you don't know what that is, it's the International Baccalaureate diploma programme that I have to go through for 2 years. I'm taking Language and Literature HL, Spanish Ab initio, Biology SL, Business and Management HL, Math SL and Visual arts HL! HL means higher level and SL means standard level, it's compulsory to take 6 subjects, 3 HL and 3 SL, in 6 areas of study to ensure holistic learning
Anyway, less rant on the details of what I'm studying and more focus on the art! In my visual arts course, I'm supposed to make art journals that show my analysis, experiments and process of reaching the final product. It'll lead up to a final exhibition which I'll have to plan out myself! The visual arts class is small, only 2 students. Yes, 2.
It's nice that it's a small class, we get to do more and have more access to the materials, personalised learning at it's best!
Visual art's lessons have been fun but there's so much work! In addition, the amount of class work from the other subjects make for less time for personal artwork as well as DA interaction, only simple doodles in my sketchbooks. :C But good news is that the amount of journal work has also influenced the way I treat my sketchbooks. Initially, they were extremely plain and non-experimental, now I'm sticking papers and all sorts of junk into my personal sketchbook. It's a great way to learn! I'll be posting up some images from my personal sketchbook once I find the time to compile the images, maybe throw in some of my journal work! (there's a lot a lot of writing in it, like A3 sized pages filled with words and scribbles.)
The arts journal basically includes all my art research and recently I've been studying about the art movements and several contemporary artists. The variety of stuff I'm looking at is just blowing me away, ahhhhhhhhh. After the first quarter (there are 4 quarters per year, so 8 quarters for the whole 2 year course), I'll be taking charge and deciding what I want to do. I'll be writing what project I want to explore!
One of the experimental pieces, oil pastel, done in class
Visited an art exhibition yesterday. It was huge and the first ever exhibition I've ever been to! Super duper fun, so many art pieces and wacky art admirers (I swear, because I wear a T-shirt and have a back pack, I'm not even offered a brochure! >
It was funny watching them pose though, I doodled a few of them haha) Below are some pics
Artists left to right: Jesús Curiá(1st 2), Kim Eon-Ok, Shaliza Juanna Alfred, Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, Jansen Chow, Imam Suchayo, Husin Hasibuan, Khairudin Zainudin. All pieces are (c) the original artists.
I'm also helping out at the school Art club which is for students in the Middle Years Programme. This was the programme I was in before (basically IB middleschool then IB diploma) so I'm the assistant teacher for art students!
It's going to be a whole lot of fun since I'm planning out the lessons! Some of the kids there are art enthusiasts and I'm hoping to help them out (they're around 13-15 years old), get them on DA, get some sketchbooks, experiment and practice!
Sketching more than ever. Yep. Also learning how to cook food in my dorm is fun. Rocky road anyone?
Also, I fell during a badminton match and partially tore my ankle's ligament D: Wearing a huge boot to allow it to heal but I'm fine
I'll put up a proper compilation together someday.
Hope everyone is doing okay
I'll take a long time to reply since I'm busy but I'll reply some time! Just comment for a chat!
Also, congratulations for reading this long journal. I seriously love writing journal entries.
